![]() For one, most of the deaths I had were 1 shot kills. Every time I died I didn't feel anything. But those are the only positives I can give this game. Let me clarify, it does have some innovative ideas: the portals and topsy-turvy physics were neat, the stylized weapons were cool, and it's full of trippy scenery. I've always been told it is full of cool innovative ideas and thus is criminally underrated. For an early Xbox 360 release I would have to say I enjoyed it, worth the short playthrough for the physics parts alone.Ħh PlayedWow, I was not expecting to dislike Prey as much as I did. Overall length was pretty short and sweet, which made the playthrough worth it. The story is pretty damn simple, the usual aliens steal your girlfriend and you have to go into a giant space station and kill every single last one of them, with a couple subtle plot twists. The music was pretty decent even though it was pretty scarce unless you randomly find a jukebox blaring Heart or some other 80s rock. Gun play was fairly simple, reminding me of Turok with all the weapons having two separate shooting functions, some being useful and some being useless though. ![]() Seamless portals appearing out of nowhere, having to enter different rooms through a box that sends you to a completely different room possibly upside down or on a wall, all without any real lag or loading besides between the levels. The physics based gameplay elements that predated Portal were pretty impressive for the time of release and made the games small puzzles pretty fun. ![]() A forgotten classic of it's genre.Ī pretty decent shooter for it's time that was built on the Doom 3 engine. I'm definitely going to be playing this again. Other than one certain area glitching out graphically and encountering a bug that had to make me start the level over, this is still one of the most impressive FPS games ever made and a testament to gaming as an art form with unique Native American characters (despite Tommy being unlikeable), mind bending gameplay and a great setting to explore. One moment Tommy can be quippy and trying to act cool and the next he'll lose his temper for no reason. Not to mention his dialogue is horrible and the voice acting is pretty terrible throughout with that early-mid 2000's stench. The sudden change from resenting his Cherokee heritage to immediately wanting to embrace it after a big moment in the game is confusing. He is insanely selfish with only one goal in mind for the entire game and even then he makes stupid decisions where he fails at that. He is by far one of the most unlikeable FPS Protagonists of all time. My big issue however is of the main character of Tommy. Almost everything in Prey, from the gameplay, the puzzles, the setting and the graphics are outstanding. ![]() It also has some of the greatest mind bending tricks in all of gaming with the player entering Portals with no loading times and gravity walkways that are puzzling to the mind. The Spirit Form mode is exciting with tons of fun and cool puzzles that really give the game an identity. They each have a purpose for being used in certain battles and the quality over quantity of the guns is just incredible. These are weapons that are so unique and don't feel like any other gun in gaming. Exploring the Sphere is a real delight and the game is very, very lengthy which can take a good 6-7 Hours to get through. Running on Doom 3's Engine, the game looks marvelous and is by far the best looking game to come out on this engine. A technologically groundbreaking game that will amaze anyone who play it. The original Prey is a unique work of art. An absolutely entertaining, original and fulfilling FPS Game that does nearly everything right. ![]()
